It's because his parents got him a damn tee-ball set instead of a baseball set! Come on you know the feeling - mom and dad's always know how to get you presents that are not what you wanted but close enough to what you asked for to make you wanna cry for the rest of the week! No wonder parents end up in Florida but not at the beaches instead locked up in an old folks home with the Florida fun taunting them over their fence!
I kinda thought it was becuase he was more the brainy type. You can see he is enjoying himself reading about the cosmos in panel 5. Maybe the poor guy just isn't cut out for sports.
I'd like to think after a tough day he retreated to his comfort zone, a sandbox behind the bushes at the park where along came a certain half polar bear named with a cold head and thus started a lasting friendship.
This is part of the reason I love love Daisy Owl: the willingness to step outside plot chronology and give us some lovely background on the characters, and the ease with which Mr. Driscoll does it!
So are all owls raised as humans? ...Or was Mr. Owl adopted by strangers much the same way Steve was? "Is this child really an owl? ...Are you sure? He does have wings, you see."
I'm appreciating the opposable thumbs - but one question if you will - when he was hatched/in the high chair/in T-Ball did they refer to him as Mr? I can see the book nerd in the library earning that honour...

After his failed T-ball career, did he give his hat to Steve?
Also, awesome as always.

Actually, his name was (and still is, presumably) Benjamin. There was a comic with Steve and Mr. Owl's yearbook.

Mr. Owl's nail-hammering skills seem to be on par with his T-ball skills.
