I always tell myself that I will love playing Risk, but have Mr. Owl's exact reaction after the third time that my 6 troops were defeated by a single defender.
I like monopoly until you reach the third hour and realise it takes like a week to actually finish a game, plus your brother and cousin have entered a conglomerate to avoid you crushing them and you vaguely dissaprove.
If you've ever played with individuals who insist on adding a cash prize to the "Free Parking" spot, that will prolong the game as well as any skill related issues.
What's worse is people trying to make silly little deals...
"Well, you're gonna lose next turn, so you give me...Park Place, all of your money and...that cake! THEN I might let you live a few more rounds"
I remember in my German class we had a new German teacher who obviously didn't know what he was doing. We would have a fifteen minute lesson and then play German monopoly every day. I loved that class so much. It took us weeks to finish a game though.
I have never finished a game of either Risk or Monopoly. We always end up destroying the weaker factions and when only two or three of us are left we realize that since Risk doesn't include a "Nuclear War" option there is no possible way of finishing the game.

Jeez you must really suck, since the lowest you can get with six is six which is the highest you can get with one, unless you mean they had a draw.

I'm not sure you understand the rules of risk...

the lowest you can get is three 1s... which is statistically the most likely outcome when you are the dude with 6.

Diplomacy is so much more frustrating. You are mentally forced to either give up or go clinically insane before you even finish 1/3 of the game.

He should have used the circumpolar sweep. Nothing can stop death from above.

Is the fact that I've only ever played LOTR Risk nerdy or awesome?
Either way, holding up in Mordor then taking over all of Harad is a water tight strategy.

My little brother does that consistantly... but he never knows when to let go. So we end up ganging up on him and taking him out.
And it's awesome.

The Circumpolar Sweep is useless! Everybody knows that the key to Risk is the South America Sneak Blitzkrieg!

The Australia Sweep is the bomb! Especially if you can hold out Europe until your army's ready.

These games just go swiftly downhill after the first half hour. Brilliant.

Dude, it doesn't take a week to finish a game, unless everyone is really, really good.

Seestraße and Opernplatz for the win. Also in most versions the yellow streets were better than the green ones.
